“Sunset” is an award-winning short film about young gay lovers in New York facing the inevitable end of their relationship in the days following Pearl Harbor. Peter (Niccolo Walsh) feels compelled to join the armed forces and fight Hitler. His lover Arnie (Ryan Trout) wants Peter to ignore his call to duty and remain in his arms.
This is an exceptionally well-produced movie with convincing performances. The film highlights the very real struggle gays have long carried to surrender themselves for a society that hates us.
Ultimately, Peter isn’t coming back. We are left clinging to the momentary day between the inevitable sunrise and sunset.
